Daniel Hanley was raised in the shop — Hot Wheels on the floor, his dad's dirt-track cars on the lift. He came up as a mechanic first, running tires and fuel on his father's Porsche Cup program before turning pro with JDX Racing in 2022. When his dad stepped out of the seat, Daniel stepped in. Spec Miata to GT4 to a Porsche championship in three seasons. The credentials are the easy part — the hard part is the next stint, the next sector, the next door he doesn't lift for.

— § 02 / Long-form

In his words.

Daniel Hanley grew up in a shop. Some of his first memories are a Thomas the Tank Engine and a fistful of Hot Wheels on the floor while his dad worked on dirt-track cars. The racing was in the family before it was in him — his dad strapped him into a kart at four, and four-year-old Daniel decided it wasn't for him. Football was. For a while, it stuck.

Then, his freshman year of high school, age 14, his dad moved into Porsche Cup cars. One of the crew guys clocked the kid hanging around, asking questions — and before Daniel knew it he was running tires and fuel and learning the cars from the bare metal up. When COVID shut the world down, racing came back before school did, so he chased every fly-in job he could get.

The more he wrenched, the deeper the hook went. In 2022 he signed on with JDX Racing — his first professional team — and that was it: the adrenaline, the competition, the addiction of all of it. That same year his father decided to step back from driving and asked Daniel if he wanted the seat.

August 2022, a Spec Miata, his first race. He hasn't lifted since.
